Kuppam Becomes Epicenter for Innovation Hubs, Signaling Broader Economic Strategy
Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh – The village of Kuppam is now home to the Rural Technology and Innovation Hub (RTIH) and a Smart Village Centre, initiatives aimed at injecting technology and innovation into rural Andhra Pradesh's economic fabric. Launched virtually by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu from Amaravati on May 25th, these centers are designed to serve as conduits for locally-driven enterprises, with the stated goal of strengthening rural economies. The Chief Minister emphasized the potential for villages to become robust economic engines by making technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship accessible to the region's youth.

This rollout in Kuppam coincides with a larger, statewide push to bolster the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. The Andhra Pradesh government, through the MSME Growth Summit 2026, has orchestrated a series of tie-ups and project inaugurations intended to foster growth, digital transformation, and export capabilities for MSMEs.

State-Wide Initiatives Target One Lakh MSMEs
The MSME Growth Summit 2026, held recently in Vijayawada, saw the Andhra Pradesh MSME Development Corporation and the IT Department ink an agreement to establish 50 Digital Transformation Facilitation Centres within various colleges. This program, part of a broader Digital Maturity Assessment initiative, has a target of reaching one lakh MSMEs across the state with digital empowerment and training.

Further collaborations include an agreement with ESSEL for energy and water audits in 1,000 MSME units, and a partnership with the India SME Forum to identify growth avenues in 10 distinct MSME clusters. A substantial ₹200 crore Cluster Development Programme was also announced, slated to benefit 750 MSMEs and create an estimated 3,125 jobs.

Foundation Laid for New Industrial Parks
As part of the summit's agenda, Chief Minister Naidu laid foundation stones for 38 new MSME parks across Andhra Pradesh. This initiative is part of a larger scheme to establish parks in all 175 Assembly constituencies, offering what is described as 'plug-and-play' infrastructure and cluster-based development. In prior phases of this scheme, 761 units have been allotted, attracting approximately ₹1,479 crore in investments and generating nearly 24,000 employment opportunities. An additional ₹200 crore has been earmarked for common facility centers in 45 industrial clusters.

Rural Innovation Hubs Trace Roots to Earlier Projects
The Rural Technology and Innovation Hub (RTIH) and its associated Smart Village Centres, now being established in Kuppam, Mangalagiri, and Pithapuram, appear to build upon earlier efforts. The Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, inaugurated near Mangalagiri in August 2025, was a precursor involving corporate leaders and government officials, signaling a sustained interest in fostering innovation ecosystems. Previous projects in Kuppam, as far back as January 2026, also saw the Chief Minister emphasizing innovation and development, including tourism and educational infrastructure projects.
The government has also signaled potential partnerships with global technology firms like Meta and Amazon, aimed at enhancing digital growth, market access, and innovation for MSMEs. The summit drew over 1,500 stakeholders, including MSME entrepreneurs, policymakers, financial institutions, and technology partners.
