Olivier Rioux, college basketball's tallest player at 7-foot-9, has committed to UC Irvine after transferring from Florida. The Canadian center, who holds a Guinness World Record as the tallest teenager, announced his decision on Thursday. Rioux spent two seasons with the Florida Gators, where he saw limited playing time.
The move to UC Irvine positions Rioux with an Anteaters squad that secured the Big West regular-season title last season with a 23-12 record. Coach Russell Turner, known for developing tall players, will now have the unique physical presence of Rioux to integrate into his program.
Rioux's collegiate career began at IMG Academy prior to his time with Florida. He became the tallest player to appear in a Division I game when he debuted against North Florida. His statistical output at Florida was minimal, totaling seven points, six rebounds, and one assist over 11 appearances.

The 20-year-old entered the transfer portal in late March, seeking an opportunity for more consistent court time. His decision follows announcements from other Florida players regarding their future plans, including expected returns for Rueben Chinyelu and other frontcourt talents. Rioux's commitment to UC Irvine adds a significant, albeit rarely seen, physical dimension to the Anteaters' roster.
