TRANSPARENCY DEMANDED AMIDST FAN DECEPTION CLAIMS
Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has leveled sharp accusations against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management. Srikkanth asserts the franchise misled fans regarding the availability of veteran player MS Dhoni throughout the IPL 2026 season. Dhoni, who missed every match due to a calf injury sustained during pre-season training, was reportedly kept in a state of ambiguous hope for fans through repeated, subtle suggestions of his return.
Srikkanth stated, "The Dhoni era is over." He further elaborated that the management, along with captain and coach Stephen Fleming, should have been more direct. "If he is not going to play the entire season, fair enough. He is still recovering from the injury. That is where the management, the captain and Stephen Fleming should have said it forthright: ‘He is not playing this season, he is not fully fit.’ Fans would have agreed and moved on.”

Fan Mentality Shift Noted
Crucially, Srikkanth observed a distinct change in fan sentiment. He noted that "nobody is asking for Dhoni in the matches," indicating that the prolonged uncertainty has, paradoxically, diminished the active demand for his presence. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter, now 44, was unable to take the field for a single game in the season.
ACCUSATIONS OF FALSE HOPE AND OUTDATED STRATEGIES
Srikkanth’s criticism extended to the perceived tactic of circulating videos of Dhoni’s net sessions. He accused CSK of “fooling fans” with such content, creating an expectation of his comeback match after match. This, he argued, only prolonged the confusion and disappointment for supporters.
Beyond player management, Srikkanth also targeted Stephen Fleming, questioning the efficacy of his coaching methods, labeling them as "twenty years old." Additionally, bowling consultant Eric Simons was suggested to have outlived his utility.
