Fox has officially ordered a new animated series titled "Stewie," focusing on the iconic toddler from the long-running "Family Guy." The show, a direct spinoff, has secured a two-season commitment from the network. This move marks the second foray into spinoffs for "Family Guy," following the previous "The Cleveland Show."
The new series is slated for a premiere during the 2027-2028 television season. "Stewie" will see the titular character, voiced once again by creator Seth MacFarlane, navigate the world of preschool. Reports suggest that this educational setting will serve as a launchpad for explorations of time and space, hinting at a broader scope than his typical domestic escapades. The series is expected to offer a more serialized narrative across its initial two seasons, deviating from the episodic nature of its parent show.

Details regarding the specific episode count for the first season indicate it will run for less than 15 episodes. Complementing the Fox broadcast, next-day streaming will be available on Hulu, with international distribution planned for Disney+.
Kirker Butler, a writer and producer known for his work on "Family Guy" and "The Cleveland Show," is credited as co-creator of "Stewie" and will serve as showrunner. MacFarlane, alongside Butler and Kara Vallow, will executive produce the project through 20th Television Animation.
The decision to center a spinoff on Stewie Griffin comes years after "Family Guy" itself has cemented its status as a significant cultural presence in adult animation. The show, which debuted in 1999, has endured multiple cancellations and is currently under a four-season order that is also set to conclude around the 2028-29 season, coinciding with the planned run of "Stewie."

"I'd like to thank Fox for this incredible opportunity, and I'm excited to start pretending I'm collaborating closely with them on the show."

Butler also offered a statement, expressing his honor and familiarity with MacFarlane's work:
"I am honored and humbled that Seth, 20th Television Animation and Fox have trusted me with one of the most iconic animated characters in the history of television. I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name."
